A Study on the Long Term Care Services for People with Psychiatric Disability
Kim Moon-Geun

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to suggest appropriate long term care services for people with psychiatric disability, to discuss how to introduce long term care services in the continuum of care in mental health, and to suggest how to secure personal assistance services for the people with psychiatric disability. For this purposes, this study discussed the conceptualization of psychiatric disability in DSM-¥³ and Disability Welfare Act as well as the authenticities of psychiatric disability. Secondly, this paper suggested four different long term care services such as institutional service, care focused community service, treatment focused community service, and personal assistance service to meet different needs of long term care by combinations of psychiatric symptoms and disabilities of the people with chronic mental illness. Thirdly, this study argued that some of mental health services that actually meet the long term care needs to be redefined as long term care services in Mental Health Act. Lastly, this paper suggested revision of personal assistance service to secure access and appropriate services for the people with psychiatric disability.
